  8.  Status         Status, by Bead Boutique Software( BBSW), is a Mac CPU MultiTask 
  9.                 Monitor, password protected screen saver, text and 
  10.                 picture file viewer and color text editor. The self 
  11.                 extracting archive is ~ 300k in size and can be 
  12.                 downloaded through America On Line from the Utility 
  13.                 Forum section, or from the University of Michigan 
  14.                 Info-Mac FTP server or its mirrors. The application 
  15.                 can be opened 6 times in demo mode. You can call 
  16.                 BBSW Monday thru Friday between 3 and 11 pm Eastern 
  17.                 Time to pay the $19 shareware fee (using Visa or 
  18.                 Master Card). For the fee, you get a unique registration 
  19.                 code that will allow you to register the demo version 
  20.                 and disable the "PLEASE REGISTER" dialog messages.

  24.     Monitor        The Macintosh can be run as a reliable, multi-tasking 
  25.                 computer if you use applications that have been 
  26.                 designed to run in a multitasking environment. The 
  27.                 problem is, until now you could not identify those 
  28.                 applications that were multi-tasking aware! Status 
  29.                 shows you which applications are multi-tasking aware 
  30.                 by displaying the remaining free CPU cycles (Sometimes 
  31.                 called free "Ticks" or free "Null Events") that 
  32.                 are left for other applications to use. Make an 
  33.                 Alias to Status and place it in your System's Start 
  34.                 Up Items folder to launch this application each 
  35.                 time you start up your computer. The bar chart shows 
  36.                 how active your CPU is, doing background tasks. 
  37.                 The number of free ticks are sampled for one second 
  38.                 once every 10 second? The last free ticks sample 
  39.                 is displayed as a number between 0 and 60 just below 
  40.                 and to the right of the bar chart.

  42.     File Viewer
  43.     &Text Editor        Status will open,display and/or print simple or 
  44.                 complex (style/color) text, or PICT files. TEXT 
  45.                 or PICT files can be opened using Drag and Drop 
  46.                 methods from the finder or using a standard "Open..." 
  47.                 Dialog technique. Style/color text documents can 
  48.                 be created up to 16 pages in length. Find/Find Again 
  49.                 and Read Text Too Me features are included. Simple 
  50.                 "Fade to Black" screen saver and Password "Screen 
  51.                 Lock" features are also included.

  53.  Extras        We have included several small applications that demonstrate 
  54.                 good background tasking capability. Cray is a 20k

  62.                 desk accessory that samples the image on the right 
  63.                 side of screen and displays it in a magnifiable 
  64.                 window. Cray then scrolls down the image in foreground 
  65.                 or background modes. Hyper Magnifier, another 20k 
  66.                 DA, samples random locations on your screen and 
  67.                 displays them in a Magifiable window. After running 
  68.                 Status, you will be able to copy and run as many 
  69.                 copies of these applications as you wish. Notice 
  70.                 that when running in the background, they still 
  71.                 hand back the Free Ticks for the operating system 
  72.                 to allocate to other applications.

  74.                 Now run your own favorite applications and see how 
  75.                 well they do at handing back Null Events to the 
  76.                 operating system. If Status indicates any of your 
  77.                 applications are "CPU HOGS", contact the developer 
  78.                 of that application and tell them to clean up their 
  79.                 code! Better yet, tell them to download their own 
  80.                 copy of Status so that it will inform them immediately 
  81.                 when they have solved the problem.
